All agility venues require your dog to weave through 12 poles - correctly, the first time.
Although unnatural for dogs, many seem to enjoy weave pole training.
This workshop will help you learn to teach reliable weaves - get the correct entrance, stay in until the end, and don't skip any poles on the way.
Best for dogs with a little weave experience, but we will work with each team at the level they are at.

Keeping your dog flexible and strong can help reduce the chance of injury when your dog is out having a good time.
Learn (or review) the basic concepts to develop a conditioning program for your dog. We will practice simple exercises to build strength, balance, body awareness, cardio, and flexibility.
Conditioning exercises also engage the mind and improve your training skills too!
Prerequisite: Dog should be able to work in a room with other dogs.

While most of the time, we can walk our dogs on a loose leash allowing them to go where they want to as long as they keep the leash loose, there are times when we NEED our dogs to be close and paying attention to us.
This workshop will practice the skills needed to build a strong habit of staying focused on their handlers when asked.
Distractions, speed, leash mechanics, tricks - all help your dog stay focused on paying attention to you instead of the environment.

We will work on exercises designed to strengthen the front limbs, hind end, and core.
Just 5-10 minutes most days will help your agility dog retain his strength and flexibility to stay balanced while running a course, increase your dog's speed, and hopefully avoid injury.
***No class November 28 - Thanksgiving***

Test 3 : Appearance and grooming
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test 5: Walking through a crowd
Test 6: Sit and down on cue and stay in place
Test 7: Coming when called
Test 8: Reaction to another dog
Test 9: Reaction to distraction
Test 10: Supervised separation
Week 1 - will be a practice run of the test. You can see where your dog needs more practice and get suggestions to help you achieve those goals.
Week 2 - we will administer the test to each team$65.00

Sitting at the start of an agility course is very exciting for most dogs....a very difficult distraction!
Stopping at the end of a dog walk, A-frame, or teeter while driving forward with speed is also very challenging.
We will practice skills for both which should keep it interesting for your dog while building his impulse control.

December 17, 2024Many agility courses today require you to send your dog to an obstacle, and your dog must take that obstacle while you move ahead to the next part of the course.
Since our dogs watch our movement very closely, this is not a natural skill. We must train them to commit to taking the obstacle even though we are moving in a different direction.
We will break this down into small pieces for your dogs to understand. Dogs may be a varying levels of proficiency with this skill. We will work with each team to help them go forward from where they are currently at.
We will primarily be working with jumps and tunnels...possibly some contacts.

December 17, 2024Every dog needs a good recall and a reliable stay! These skills can save a dog's life!
Walking your dog without a leash can be challenging.....and dangerous if your dog is not properly trained to stay close to you, come when called, and have a solid stay - even with distractions.
While your dogs will be ON-leash most of this class, we will practice those all important skills to keep your walks with your dog fun and safe.
We will briefly review the basics, then practice teaching our dogs that it is always a good idea to run to us when we call them & Stay in place no matter what....even with distractions!
Participating dogs should be able to focus on handler with other dogs in the room. Talk to the instructor if you aren't sure.
These skills takes practice. You will go home with skills to practice daily with your own dog and tips for better success.

December 19, 2024Teach your dog to move away from you....to go to a mat - or go around a cone.
Sounds like a silly thing you would want to teach your dog, but it actually has lots of practical uses. I use this to send my dog to her cot when I don't want her in the kitchen, or there are different ways you can send your dog around a tree for fun and fitness.
"Out" cues are very handy in agility training also....sometimes you need your dog to choose an obstacle away from you, perhaps even with another obstacle between you.
When your dog understands to move away from you, you can teach different skills. We will work with each team at whatever level they are at.

It is helpful for our dogs to learn that they cannot greet everyone...and should not greet anyone until given permission.
Taking the previous two Heeling Skills workshops will help dog be successful with polite greetings. We will practice greeting humans only, teams with dogs, and possibly other dogs (depending on the group).
