But fit and flexible dogs are less prone to injuries - this is especially important if you do agility or other physically challenging games with your dog. This class will introduce you to basic conditioning principles, as well as teach you lots different exercises that you can work on with your dog to build strength, flexibility, body awareness, and confidence. And dogs love this stuff!! They get lots of treats while learning new tricks! You don't need lots of expensive equipment or a large space. Although this isn’t something we use everyday, it takes a bit of practice for our dogs to understand. Having a dog that heels at our side when asked, will also help our dogs get out of the habit of dragging their handlers around the neighborhood. Usually, as your dog's Attention Heeling improves, so does his loose leash casual walking skills. Learn how to use your body to help your dog turn, tricks to keep your dog's focus, and build duration of walking next to you. Learn how to teach your dog to remain calm when greeting other dogs or people. To be successful at greetings, dogs need to have a bit of impulse control. We will practice a few games to help teach this. Teaching our dogs to think before acting is another life skill that will make our dogs much easier to live with. 5:30 pm: Workshop - Go to Place and Stay5:30 pm: Workshop - Go to Place and Stay – Having a reliable “STAY” cue is a necessary for every dog. We will work through the basics of proofing your stay cue, as well as teach your dog to go to a mat or cot and stay there until told to get off. Prerequisite: Dog/puppy should have basic understanding of Sit/down and release cue 1 hour workshop - $30 Instructor: Carolyn Ross 6:45 pm: Workshop - Intro to Shaping Skills6:45 pm: Workshop - Intro to Shaping Skills – Free Shaping is a fun training method. I use it mostly for more advanced tricks. Free shaping teaches the dog to offer behaviors, which gets the dog thinking about how he can train the handler to give him treats! Done correctly, this can greatly increase the dog's confidence and improve the handler's training skills. Come out for some fun activities for you and your dog! 5:30 pm: Workshop - Weaning off Treats (CGC practice)5:30 pm: Workshop - Weaning off Treats (CGC practice) – It is so easy to become dependent on giving your dog treats....all the time....At some point, your dog doesn't need to be given cookies for behaviors they know well. This workshop will focus on helping your dog learn to work with less treats. We will practice most of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test items.
