Although this isn’t something we use everyday, it takes a bit of practice for our dogs to understand. Having a dog that heels at our side when asked, will also help our dogs get out of the habit of dragging their handlers around the neighborhood. Usually, as your dog's Attention Heeling improves, so does his loose leash casual walking skills. Learn how to use your body to help your dog turn, tricks to keep your dog's focus, and build duration of walking next to you. To be successful at greetings, dogs need to have a bit of impulse control. We will practice a few games to help teach this. Teaching our dogs to think before acting is another life skill that will make our dogs much easier to live with. May 1, 2023(2 events) 5:30 pm: Workshop - Weaning off Treats (CGC practice) – It is so easy to become dependent on giving your dog treats....all the time....At some point, your dog doesn't need to be given cookies for behaviors they know well. This workshop will focus on helping your dog learn to work with less treats. We will practice most of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test items. All the basic skills, sit, down, stay, come, loose leash walking, sitting politely for petting, and greeting other dog/handler teams.
