How Smart is YOUR dog? With a little coaching, probably pretty smart!
The Smart Dog Program used to be called Obstacle Skills. You will work with a variety of objects to help your dog build confidence, balance, body awareness, and obedience skills while learning to stay focused on you. You will practice a variety of training styles all based on a positive reward system.
This is a great pre-agility class. If you are thinking of trying dog agility this summer, this would be a great place to start.
We will offer several Novice tests. You can complete each test throughout the class. Play for fun - or earn a qualifying score towards a Smart Dog Title. No pressure.....just fun!

April 17, 2023Sometimes we need our dogs to have their full attention on us. Although this isn’t something we use everyday, it takes a bit of practice for our dogs to understand.
Having a dog that heels at our side when asked, will also help our dogs get out of the habit of dragging their handlers around the neighborhood. Usually, as your dog's Attention Heeling improves, so does his loose leash casual walking skills.
Learn how to use your body to help your dog turn, tricks to keep your dog's focus, and build duration of walking next to you.
Prerequisite: Dog/puppy should have some basic understanding of walking next to handler.

April 24, 2023Calm greetings are easier for everyone.
Learn how to teach your dog to remain calm when greeting other dogs or people. To be successful at greetings, dogs need to have a bit of impulse control. We will practice a few games to help teach this.
Teaching our dogs to think before acting is another life skill that will make our dogs much easier to live with.
Prerequisite: Dog/puppy should have basic understanding of Sit/down and release cue

April 27, 2023Having a reliable “STAY” cue is a necessary for every dog. We will work through the basics of proofing your stay cue, as well as teach your dog to go to a mat or cot and stay there until told to get off.

April 27, 2023Free Shaping is a fun training method. I use it mostly for more advanced tricks.
Free shaping teaches the dog to offer behaviors, which gets the dog thinking about how he can train the handler to give him treats! Done correctly, this can greatly increase the dog's confidence and improve the handler's training skills.
Come out for some fun activities for you and your dog!
Prerequisite: Dog/puppy should be able to work in a room with other dogs nearby
