March 30, 2023(2 events) 5:30 pm: Intro to Canine Fitness Fun - Mar 2 @ 5:30pm - 5 weeks – Keeping your dog in good shape can be extra challenging in the winter. But fit and flexible dogs are less prone to injuries - this is especially important if you do agility or other physically challenging games with your dog. This class will introduce you to basic conditioning principles, as well as teach you lots different exercises that you can work on with your dog to build strength, flexibility, body awareness, and confidence. And dogs love this stuff!! They get lots of treats while learning new tricks! You don't need lots of expensive equipment or a large space. The Smart Dog Program used to be called Obstacle Skills. You will work with a variety of objects to help your dog build confidence, balance, body awareness, and obedience skills while learning to stay focused on you. You will practice a variety of training styles all based on a positive reward system. This is a great pre-agility class. If you are thinking of trying dog agility this summer, this would be a great place to start. We will offer several Novice tests. You can complete each test throughout the class. Play for fun - or earn a qualifying score towards a Smart Dog Title. April 27, 2023(2 events) 5:30 pm: Workshop - Go to Place and Stay – Having a reliable “STAY” cue is a necessary for every dog. We will work through the basics of proofing your stay cue, as well as teach your dog to go to a mat or cot and stay there until told to get off. Prerequisite: Dog/puppy should have basic understanding of Sit/down and release cue 1 hour workshop - $30 Instructor: Carolyn Ross 6:45 pm: Workshop - Intro to Shaping Skills – Free Shaping is a fun training method. I use it mostly for more advanced tricks. Free shaping teaches the dog to offer behaviors, which gets the dog thinking about how he can train the handler to give him treats! Done correctly, this can greatly increase the dog's confidence and improve the handler's training skills. Come out for some fun activities for you and your dog!
